The Long Path To Overnight Success

We’ve put a lot of time & energy over the last decade+ to preserve & restore this local heritage building, and while we have still a long way to go, we’ve secured the foundation for our non-profit charity to get an arts & cultural centre opened and operating here in the next decade. ❤️🙏

Sunny morning in front of the house on the hill.

The day will come when we will showcase our productions right on these premises, like the one we held this past summer, “The Phantom Ship of the Bay of Chaleur and the Mystery of the Squando”, which we had to present at the local heritage museum instead.

It’s an exciting time as major pieces of the restoration come together, and we expand on artistic collaborations. Lots more details about the history of the house, and what our group has accomplished so far, are available on our website, DoucetHennessy.com.

Little Miss Sunshine and Lifting Up Gently

Little Miss Sunshine earned a place on my rewatch list with enjoyable lines like,”Everyone, just pretend to be normal.” And one of the loveliest elements of all is the contrast between Richard’s “Refuse To Lose” approach to being a winner, and the moments after everything turns upside down for Dwayne.

For Richard, neck-deep in the all-American culture of needing to be seen as a winner, any perceived obstacle that impedes you from moving forward is something which needs to be pushed down hard, as in the moment he’s instructing Sheryl on how to drive a stick.

“Push the stick down hard.”

Much later on, Dwayne melts down after realizing his path to the skies is forever unobtainable and then isolates himself on the side of the road, distanced from his family. It is only after Olive comforts him silently that he returns to the rest of the family, helping Olive up the difficult incline by lifting her up gently.

Simply an incredibly lovely approach of showcasing opposites, and another reason why Little Miss Sunshine is one of my favourites.

Clever Girl

Dilophosaurus minifigure with another minifigure in its jaws.

Daughter’s Lego fun took a dark turn after I had one of the minifigures ask, “Why did the dilophosaurus ask for a Tylenol? Because she was dino-sore!” Dinosaur bit the head off, my daughter stated, so the minifigure couldn’t tell any more jokes. Clever girl. 😂
