About to redo our private family website, and came across this photo. Always loved this moment.
Weekly Book Run
“The only thing that you absolutely have to know, is the the location of the library.” I remember that being attributed to Albert Einstein, but these days you can’t check *any* quote online through Google, you’ll wind up with it being said by Gandhi, Michael Jordan, and Mr. Beast. One more reason that Sarah McIntyre’s illustration below continues to be entirely accurate.
In this week’s book run, the crew found an Archie comic and a graphic novel at the used book store, and then they took out several graphic novels from the library, including TMNT, Diary of an 8-Bit Warrior, Besties Work It Out, Emotional Robots, and Wings of Fire. And while we were roaming the library, we spotted one of their joke books up on display.
My library also sells books ever Saturday, and look what I scored for a toonie – BLACK HOLE by Charles Burns. (The library already had a copy, so that meant it was my lucky day.)
Velvet Switchblade
“…Michael. Dear Michael.” So begins MICHAEL CLAYTON, one of the best movies of the 21st century. And I know I’m not alone in this assessment.
MICHAEL CLAYTON is an absolute banger of a screenplay. You know when people on socials ask, “Hey, what’s a screenplay you’d suggest to someone looking to learn how to do it right?” Well, this is on my shortlist. And George Clooney, what can I say other than this is the best role in his entire career. It’s movie perfection. Plus, Tom Wilkinson’s character with his grocery bag is a sly treasure for the ages.
But in this moment, I want to highlight one of the all-time great lines for character introduction, for Marty Bach, Michael’s boss, the one who runs the show.
“A velvet switchblade.” Go ahead and put that right next to “rock’n roll arsonist” in the pantheon of great descriptors.
